Sustainable eThics Reviews of digital heAlth Technology dEsiGn In sub saharan afriCa

Objectives

The STRATEGIC project will co-create a theoretically strong, empirically supported and widely consulted responsible research and innovation approach and capacity development plan and materials that can strengthen relevant ethics and regulatory institutions for clinical trials and research in in sub-saharan Africa (SSA).

To this end, existing gaps in ethical and legal frameworks will be identified and addressed through regulatory improvement plans and materials. Training materials tailored to the specific needs within SSA will be incorporated into existing training infrastructures to promote the transfer of knowledge and compliance with ethical practices. The REC perspective will be considered in co-creating and piloting an ethically responsible approach to the regulation of digital health technology in Africa to ensure that STRATEGIC specifically supports national ethics committees and national regulatory authorities by providing them with useful tools. In addition, RECs will be part of an e-community aimed at increasing the pool of experts and the exchange of knowledge.


Outputs

STRATEGIC will develop and test training materials to build capacity for the review and evaluation of health technologies and to raise ethical awareness.
The training materials will be tailored to the unique needs of sub-Saharan Africa and will be integrated into existing training infrastructures to facilitate knowledge transfer and ensure adherence to ethical practices.
